Stars Theater Presents an Old-Fashioned Melodrama

Stars Theater Company presents Never Trust a City Slicker, May 9 through 11 and May 16 thorough 18, starting at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays.

The play centers around Mrs. Hookworm and daughter Stacy. The two run a theatrical boarding house. Set in the Old West, producer Bill E. Goat and his company are locked out of the boarding house by Mrs. Hookworm, who keeps their belongings when they can’t pay the rent. Enter the real villain: Slicker Pinsetter, who knows that one of Bill E. Goat’s actresses has a trunk full of her father’s plays — one of which is all the rave in London and worth a lot of money. Soon Pinsetter and Hookworm are in a race for the trunk. Enter the hero: Chester, a cowboy who is out to save the day.

The cast if full of local faces, including: North Richland Hills resident Keith Smith as the despicable Slicker Pinsetter; Southlake’s Molly Dodge as the sweet, Mary Delightful; the cowboy hero, Chester, is played by Southlake resident David Taylor; Kevin Barkin of Grapevine plays the down-on-his luck producer Bill E. Goat; Mrs. Hookworm and her bratty little girl are played by Grapevine resident Catherine Chambers and Paige Stinnett of Southlake, according to a news release. Rounding out the cast are Southlake residents Kayla Badkoubei, Jake Beach, Rachel Degraffenreid, Munchy Cohen, Shelby Galloway, Natalie Miano, Taylor Schafer, John Tarver, Charlotte York and Courtney Zanetti; and Grapevine residents Chris Chambers and Chris Wilson., the release states.

The performance is directed by Lu Anne Tyson of Hurst.
